Cherokee was born in Pikeville but grew up in Betsy Layne, a small town in eastern Kentucky, but always had big dreams of being a filmmaker. He was a coalmining town boy with Hollywood filmmaking dreams.
At the age of 20 he moved to Cincinnati and attended Northern Kentucky University majoring in Theater. Acting was what he wanted to do. While there he realized that his love for acting was not just bound to films like he thought. He was soon bitten by the acting bug and was cast in a few NKU plays as well as several short films being shot by the Radio/TV/Film students and even directed a few shorts of his own.
After college he moved to Lexington Ky. and got a job in the computer industry and all but walked away from his dream of acting, writing, directing, and producing. It was not until 2004 that the passion came back stronger than ever.
In 2004 Cherokee had to move in with his grandmother to take care of her because she had terminal cancer and he vowed to never put her in a nursing home. This took a tremendous toll on Cherokee mentally and physically. Since he could not leave his grandmother alone Cherokee spent many hours surfing the net and that’s when his brother pointed him to a fan film called ‘Batman: Dead End’ by Sandy Collora.
After seeing ‘Batman: Dead End’ and also the fan film ‘Grayson’ by John Fiorella. Cherokee had his passion back and was once again ready to make films. But this time he would be giving a bigger effort to directing than anything else.
Cherokee can be seen in George Bonilla’s ‘Edison Death Machine’, Chad Hundley’s ‘Into the Woods’ Jerry Williams ‘Zeppo’ and ‘Misadventures in Space’, and Stacey Gillespie’s ‘In The Eye’s of Darkness’. As for projects of his own he recently directed three 48 hour film projects ‘What’s in the Box’ and ‘The Surprise…Party?’ (Cincinnati) and ‘6 Years Under’ (Louisville). He’s also directed the short Zombie horror ‘Day One’ as well as his dark comedy ‘My Roommate: The Bloodsucking Undead’ which he wrote, produced, directed, and edited. Look for it to make the festival run in 2007.
Cherokee is also the president and a founding member of JustUS League Films. Check them out at www.justusleaguefilms.com and you can check Cherokee out at his IMDB page http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2296170/ |
