In the role of Press and Public Relations manager for ZP International, Frank Santoroski does a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes including web development, press kits, logos, DVD covers, advertisements, film festival and show submissions, and communication. Because of this, George Bonilla was initially surprised that Santoroski asked to read for a role in “The Edison Death Machine.”
“I really like the Dominic character,” says Frank, “But George (Bonilla) thought that I was too nice of a guy to play the ruthless, calculating, cold-blooded mob boss. I’ve only ever done comedy before, so it was a great challenge to bring this particular role to life. After reading the script, I was so taken by the Dominic character that I wanted to give it a try. Every time I ran into George, I would recite Dominic’s lines. Eventually I had sold him on giving me the part.”
For Frank Santoroski, The Edison Death Machine marked a return to the screen following an absence of nearly fifteen years. Bonilla’s gamble on casting Santoroski as Dominic paid off, as he gained critical acclaim for the part. Robert Freese of VideoScope Magazine wrote “Frank Santoroski; what can I say about this guy? He makes the screen sizzle every scene he is in.”
“I owe a lot of credit to Billy Blackwell,” says Frank, “I was pretty rusty when I first got in front of the camera. But being able to do my scenes with a true professional like Billy, every thing came back to me. Every take was better and better, and I am truly proud of the scenes that Billy and I play off of one another in.”
Santoroski’s work in The Edison Death Machine led to a role of a drunken carnival barker in Monstrosity.
“My character in Monstrosity, Stewert, is very British.” said Santoroski. “This sounds funny, but I actually prepped for that role by doing a Davey Jones impersonation singing Monkee’s songs at the local karaoke bar. It worked.”
Prior to joining ZP International, He was one of founding members of the MFM comedy troupe and was with the group from it’s inception in 1985 until they disbanded in 1992. With MFM, Frank directed, wrote and starred in a series of short independent films produced in Southwest Virginia.
He was best known for his recurring role as a disillusioned local anchorman on The 5:48 News on Channel 666 plus Tax, and for a series of beer commercial parodies that was literally the first to use the moniker “The Beast” to refer to a certain brand name of beer. The MFM collections that were released on video through Killafrog Enterprises in the early 90’s are now out of print, but there are negotiations in the works to release a DVD box set in the near future.
A native of New Jersey, Frank currently resides in Berea, KY with his wife Laura and their two children. In the years since MFM disbanded, Frank has enjoyed a successful career in the restaurant industry.
Frank is an accomplished drummer and has performed with the bands Crossbone Axis, Steel Reign, and Axiom. Frank is also a fan of IndyCar racing and Formula One and spent three years as a sportswriter and correspondent for CART Pages and Racing Lines.
