The Scarefest 2008, held this past weekend, was a remarkable event. George Bonilla and ZP International were asked to be special guests. In addition to conducting two seminars, ZP International ran a vendor table all weekend. the table was manned primarily by Todd Burrows, while Frank Santoroski ran the photo booth.
Friday started off with a bang, as the doors opened at 4:00 PM. The excitement in the air was incredible as SCAREFEST fans got their first look at the exhibition hall. The room was filled with celebrities and vendors from both the horror and paranormal genres.
George Bonilla, assisted by Tammy Bonilla and Lyzayne Whittaker, put on a special effects make-up demonstration to a packed seminar room Friday evening. The highlight was the bloodying-up of a willing volunteer in the audience.
We saw a lot of old friends, including the crew from Justus League Films (Cherokee and Casey), Jacob Ennis from Tuckywood Productions, Jerry Williams and Eric Butts, who were there to promote their film, ZEPPO, Mark Poole from Anubis digital, Ari Lehman, Dave Rupp from Infernal Dreams, Nick the B-movie man, Deadpit Radio, Kane Hodder, Tony Moran, David Naughton, Adrienne King, Richard Cook and Tom Savini.
Saturday was busy all day, we met tons of ZP International fans, and spoke with many, many potential new fans. we sold a slew of DVDs with THE EDISON DEATH MACHINE being the best seller. Fans and celebrities alike lined up for their chance to be photographed in the Electric Chair from HELL-EPHONE.
One of Saturday’s highlights was a ‘Friday the 13th’ reunion Q & A panel that was filmed by Paramount for a special feature on an upcoming ‘Friday the 13th’ DVD release. During the panel discussion, Ari Lehman (the original Jason) told the standing room only crowd about his role in HELL-EPHONE. He also added heaps of praise for the ZP International crew as he related his experiences on our set.
Many of ZP International’s cast and crew members, both past and present, stopped by to wish us well with HELL-EPHONE. Brain Austin was on hand and very helpful in setting up and tearing down the booth before and after the show. We also ran into Bob and Belinda Cooke, Stacey Gillespie, John Corey Stringer, Cecilia Waller, David Sowder, Laura Santoroski, Pete Whitaker, David Lemoine, Raymond Mitchell, Sven Granlund, and Trey Mitchell.
Sunday was another exciting day, as once again many fans came through the convention. Sunday morning featured George Bonilla’s seminar “Make Your Movie Right Now” where he was joined on the panel by Belinda Cooke, Jerry Williams, and Todd Burrows. The seminar was well-received with a number of pertinent questions by interested attendees.
All in all, Scarefest 2008 was one of the best first-year shows we have ever done. Kudo’s to Jeff Waldridge, Patti Starr and Chuck Starr for putting together a memorable event. We are truly looking forward to Scarefest 2009!
